Providence is striking, chunky, and full of body. It's wonderfully wide at approximately 72 inches (137 cm) relaxed, stretching over 25% crosswise (selvage to selvage) without distortion.
The fabric is warm with a hand knitted look. It's perfectly suited for outerwear -- a chunky pullover, a jacket, or sweater coat. The beautiful medium-grade wool yarn was spun in New England and knitted in New Jersey. It's approximately 12 oz/sq yd (407 gsm).
Providence is available in three colorways. Smoke gray is back in stock. It mixes several shades of light gray with a little bit of white. Other colors are available in separate listings: The cream is indeed a classic, showing off the amazing texture of this sweater knit quite well. Dark burgundy is mostly the color of dark red wine with hints of black and cranberry.
Always prepare your fabric before cutting. Overlock or zigzag stitch along cut or raw edges, then launder your fabric in the same manner you'll use with your finished garment. In order to prevent felting or shrinking of wool, gentle washing by hand in cool water is recommended. Lay flat to dry. Or the fabric may be dry cleaned. (Detailed fabric care and more about the fabric can be found on the Crafting Fashion blog.)
Providence wool is sold by the HALF YARD (0.457 meter). Fabric of the same color and style will be delivered in one continuous piece.
If weight, hand, color, and stretch are important to your project, please order a swatch first.
