Soft and lovely, Saint Cloud is perfect for your winter pullovers or cardigans. The structure is a tuck jersey, a good sweater weight, knitted with a medium-grade vanilla-colored yarn. Because the fluffy, woolen-spun fibers tend to trap air, choose this fabric if you want your sweater to be lightweight and warm. In order to allow the beautiful, lofty fibers to bloom, Saint Cloud has been through a natural washing process. You can see the "halo" (fluffy fibers) in the close up picture. The fabric is a dream to cut and sew.
Saint Cloud was produced in one of the last few knitting mills in New York City. The fabric is approximately 9 oz/sq yd (305 gsm) and about 43 inches (109 cm) wide. Either side of the fabric can be used as the public side of your garment.
Always prepare your fabric before cutting. Zigzag or overlock cut edges, then launder your fabric with the same method you'll use for your finished garment. In order to prevent felting or shrinking of the wool, a gentle washing by hand in cool water is recommended. Lay fabric flat to dry. Or the fabric may be dry cleaned.
Saint Cloud wool sweater knit is sold by the HALF YARD (0.457 meter). Fabric of the same color and style will be delivered in one continuous piece.
If weight, hand, color, and stretch are important to your project, please order a swatch first.
